AI Hair Color Changer

Platinum, copper, ash balayage or jet black — on your hair, in your light, before anyone reaches for the bleach.

Natural brunette, recoloured to icy platinum

A real run on this page's engine, from an ordinary studio portrait. Drag the divider and watch the parting and the flyaways: they do not move. Every output is AI-generated, so your result varies with your photo — treat this as what the tool does rather than a result you will get back identically.

AI photo tool

What does an AI hair color changer do?

It repaints the hair in a photograph and leaves everything else alone — a recolour, not a restyle. The test is whether your own hair still looks like your own hair afterwards, only in a different shade.

Image tool

Colour is the hardest thing to imagine on yourself, which is why salon consultations run on swatch books and phone screenshots of strangers. Neither answers the actual question. A swatch shows you a shade under shop lighting on hair that is not yours; a photo of a model shows you what the shade did to somebody else's texture, length and skin tone.

What you want to know is narrower and more personal: does this colour work against my face, on my hair, in the light I am usually seen in.

That is the job here. The edit runs on Nano Banana 2 in the browser: upload a photo, name a shade, and the hair is repainted while the parting, the cut, the flyaways, the clothing and the background are held in place. Highlights are placed where the light already falls and the shadowed sections go cooler, because a colour that ignores the lighting reads as a wig.

Good sources are ordinary ones — hair clear of a busy background, face lit reasonably evenly, no heavy filter already baked in. A dark, backlit photo hides the very texture the recolour needs to follow.

Same strands, new shade

A recolour, not a restyle — the geometry of the cut is preserved so the only variable you are judging is the colour.

Runs in the browser

No app, no swatch book, no bleach. Upload, name a shade, look at it on your own face.

Changing the shape rather than the shade is a different pass: try a whole new cut in the AI hairstyle changer, add length in the AI long hair filter, or see the curl pattern change in the curly hair filter.

How to use

See a new shade in three steps

From one photo to a decision you can actually take to the salon.

1

Pick an honest photo

Even light, hair clear of the background, no filter already applied. A photo that flatters your current shade will flatter the next one too, which defeats the purpose.

2

Name the shade

Be specific — ash brown balayage, copper with golden ends, cool platinum with darker roots. Vague words give you the average of everything they could mean.

3

Generate and compare

Run two or three shades on the same source and look at them together. Judging a colour on its own is much harder than judging it against another one.

Who it's for

Who tries a shade first

People about to book, people who cannot book, and people whose hair has to match something.

Before the appointment

Walking in with a picture of yourself in the shade you want ends the guessing on both sides of the chair. Colourists ask for reference photos precisely because words like 'ashy' mean different things to different people.

The change you will not make

Bleach is a commitment; jet black is a six-month decision. Seeing it on your own face is often enough — and if it is not, the AI hairstyle changer will show you the cut that goes with it.

Matching a look

A costume, a wedding party, a character, a band photo where everyone agreed on something. Testing it on the actual faces beats arguing about a hex code.

Answers

Hair colour FAQ

Common questions about recolouring hair in a photo with Kavel.

It should not. The pass is written to hold the parting, the length, the wave pattern and even the flyaways in place and repaint only the colour. If a result comes back with a different cut, the source was probably very low contrast — the model could not tell where the hair ended — and a better-lit photo fixes it.

It will show you what platinum looks like against your face, which is the useful part. What no photo tool can tell you is how many sessions your hair needs to get there or how it will survive them. Take the image to a colourist and let them answer the chemistry.

Yes, if you ask for them. Say where the colour should be darker and where it should lighten — darker roots through to lighter ends, money-piece at the front, cool shadow underneath — and the gradient follows the actual fall of your hair rather than sitting on top as a band.

They are left alone unless you name them. If you want the brows to move with the shade, which matters for a big jump like brunette to platinum, say so in the prompt and they will be treated as part of the same edit.

Almost always a lighting mismatch: the new shade was applied evenly while the photo has a strong light on one side. Use a source with softer, more even light, or say explicitly that the highlights should follow the existing light direction.

Only with their agreement. A shade test on a friend before their appointment is exactly what this is for; uploading someone's photo to make an image they have not consented to is not, and the content policy applies to what you generate here.

The estimate is on screen before you press generate and moves with the resolution you pick, so you are never guessing. Failed runs come back to your balance unless they broke the content policy, and a new account starts with enough to compare a few shades.

Choose the largest format the generator offers before running, since enlarging a small result afterwards cannot recover detail that was never there. Keep the original download rather than a copy passed through a chat app, which re-compresses it.

Model credit guide

What each model costs in credits

You're only charged for successful generations. The exact estimate in the generator varies by model, length, resolution, audio, and number of images.

TypeModelCredit cost
VideoSeedance 2.5The long-take tier, priced per second: 5s 480p ≈ 211 credits, 5s 720p ≈ 473. A full 30s take runs ≈ 1,260 at 480p and ≈ 2,835 at 720p. Supplying a reference clip lowers the per-second rate.
VideoSeedance 2.05s 720p image-to-video ≈ 188 credits; text-to-video ≈ 308 credits. Scales with resolution and length.
VideoSeedance 2 FastFaster and lower cost. 5s 720p text-to-video ≈ 248 credits.
VideoSeedance 2 MiniThe cheapest Seedance tier. 5s 720p ≈ 154 credits, 5s 480p ≈ 72 credits.
VideoSeedance 1.5 ProAudio doubles the rate. 5s 720p ≈ 27 credits silent, ≈ 53 with audio; 1080p ≈ 57 and ≈ 113.
VideoVeo 3.1Billed per video, not per second (Lite tier). About 45 credits at 720p and 53 at 1080p.
VideoKling 3.0Audio raises the rate. 5s 720p ≈ 105 credits silent, ≈ 150 with audio; 1080p ≈ 135 and ≈ 203.
VideoMiniMax H3Fixed 2K, no resolution ladder. Priced per second — a 5s clip ≈ 158 credits.
ImageNano Banana 2Generate or edit from text and images. About 8 credits per 1K image, 12 at 2K, 18 at 4K.
ImageNano Banana ProConsistent run times across generations. About 12 credits per 1K or 2K image, 21 at 4K.
ImageNano Banana 2 LiteFaster, simpler variant. A flat 8 credits per image at every resolution. Start here to test.
ImageGPT Image 2The lowest-cost image model here. About 3 credits per 1K image, 6 at 2K, 12 at 4K.
