Aging Filter

See the same face decades older — deeper lines, thinner skin, grey hair, the bone structure that still makes it you. Or run it the other way and take the years off instead.

The same woman, fifty years apart

A real ageing pass, produced by the model on this page. Drag the divider and look at what survives the jump: the eyes, the shape of the face, the curl pattern, the mustard blouse, the light. Every output is AI-generated, so your own result varies with the photo you upload — read this as a guide to what the tool does, not a forecast of your face.

AI photo tool

What is an AI aging filter?

It takes one photo and rewrites the face as it would look decades later — forehead and nasolabial lines cut deeper, the jawline softening, lips thinning, skin turning translucent with age spots, hair going grey — while holding on to the features that identify the person. That last part is the whole difficulty.

Image tool

Ageing a photograph is easy; ageing a photograph so the result is still obviously the same human is not, and it is why most cheap versions produce a generic old face with your hair colour. On Kavel this runs on the Nano Banana image model. Upload a clear photo — the flow defaults to image-to-image — pick the format, and the credit estimate updates before you commit; a failed run is refunded automatically unless it broke the content policy.

It takes a number, too: twenty years on, fifty years on, or years off in the other direction.

Aged details, preserved identity

Aged details, preserved identity

Lines deepen, skin thins and hair greys while eye colour, bone structure and expression stay put. Identity is the whole test — if you would not recognise the result in a family album, the run has failed regardless of how convincing the wrinkles are.

Nothing to install

Nothing to install

It works in the browser with free credits: no camera app, no account wall before you see a result. What the model needs is a clear, evenly lit face; a heavy filter or a low angle on the source gives it the wrong bone structure to age.

Takes a number: twenty years on, fifty years on, or years off in the other direction. The aging filter moves one variable and leaves the rest alone — the gender swap and the braces filter move a different one on the same face, and it can be run after either of them.

How to use

Add the years in three steps

From one photo to a believable older version, with the cost shown before you commit.

  1. Use a flat, front-facing photo

Even light, the whole head in frame, no heavy beauty filter. Smoothed skin has no texture left for the years to be written into.

    Use a flat, front-facing photo
  2. Name the number of years

Twenty, forty, fifty — say it plainly, and add what you want kept, such as the same haircut or the same glasses, so the change stays on the face.

  3. Check credits and generate

Generate, then compare the decades side by side before you download. A failed run is refunded (unless it broke the content policy), so you only spend credits on the decades that actually come back.

Who it's for

Why people run their own face forward

Curiosity, a family joke, a long-term health nudge — one edit, several motives.

Curiosity, mostly

Curiosity, mostly

The single most common reason. You want to see it, you want to send it to someone, and you do not want to install an app to do it.

Character and story work

Character and story work

Age a character reference across a timeline so the older and younger versions read as one person instead of two casting choices.

A nudge, gently

Seeing a plausible later version of yourself is a long-standing motivational trick. Treat it as a picture with a point, not a medical projection.

Age progression FAQ

Common questions about running a face forward in time on a photo with Kavel.

That is the thing worth judging it on. Bone structure, eye colour, eye spacing and the shape of the nose carry over, so the older version should be recognisable to anyone who knows you. Where it slips is with heavily filtered source photos: if the original has already been smoothed and reshaped, the model is ageing an idealised face rather than yours.

Yes — put the number in the prompt. Twenty years reads as middle age, fifty gets you to a plausible seventies. Anything past about sixty years tends to converge on a generic very-old face, because the individual features that make you identifiable have been overwritten by the ageing itself.

Yes — it is the same control run the other way. Ask for a specific target instead of a vague one: "in their early twenties" gives a far better result than "younger". De-ageing is the harder direction, because the model has to remove information the photograph actually recorded rather than add plausible new detail, so expect skin and hairline to move convincingly while the eyes stay closest to the original.

No. It produces one plausible version, weighted by what faces in general do over time. Genetics, sun exposure, weight, smoking and luck decide the actual outcome, and none of them are visible in your photo. Treat the output as an illustration, not a forecast.

Because the prompt was read as a hair instruction. Ageing is a set of separate changes — skin texture, volume loss, lines, pigmentation, hair colour — and a vague request often lands on the most obvious one. Name the parts you want: deeper lines, thinner lips, age spots, a softer jawline, silver hair.

You can, and people do it in the other direction — taking years off an old family portrait to see a grandparent young. Ask permission where the person is alive to give it, and think before publishing an altered picture of someone who has not agreed to it.

The estimate updates as you change the format and resolution, so the cost is visible first. Failed runs are refunded automatically (unless it broke the content policy), and new accounts start with free credits — enough to see the older version before spending anything.

It is used to produce your image, and the privacy policy sets out retention in detail. This tool draws family pictures in particular — old portraits of parents and grandparents — so it is worth reading before you upload a photo that is not yours to hand over.
