Every line in a photograph of a room is lying to you about length. The far wall is shorter than the near one, the rug is a trapezoid, the sofa nearest the lens is enormous. A plan undoes all of that: it says what the room would look like with the ceiling removed and the camera infinitely far above, where parallel lines stay parallel and a metre is a metre wherever it sits.
Getting from one to the other is reasoning about a space, not restyling a picture, which is why a blueprint conversion fails in ways an ordinary filter never does.
The pair above is our own run, one corner shot in and one plan out. What is worth checking is the arrangement rather than the prettiness: the three-seat sofa against the left wall, the low table centred on the rug, the tall bookshelf on the adjacent wall, the armchair turned toward the window, and the window itself drawn as a break in the wall rather than a line across it.
The door swing in the corner is inferred — it is the sort of thing a drafter adds because rooms have doors, and it is also the sort of thing to verify against reality.
Now the limits, because this is the page where they matter most. Nothing here is measured. The plan is proportionally plausible, not dimensionally accurate, and it should never be used to order materials, submit anything to a planning department, or cut a worktop. It also cannot see what the camera could not: a corner behind the lens is invented, so shoot from the doorway and expect the far side of the room to be the reliable half.

A corner shot shows two walls and the relationship between them. A photo taken from the centre of the room shows one wall and guesses the rest.
Kitchen, bedroom, studio. Naming it tells the model which fixtures are plausible and which would be absurd, and that shows up in the plan.
Almost all of the accuracy is decided by where you stand when you take the photo.
Back into a corner, hold the phone at chest height and make sure the floor runs to the far wall in shot. The floor is the surface the plan is derived from; if it is cropped out, the proportions come from guesswork.
Hatched walls, a door swing arc, dimension lines around the outside. Naming them is the difference between an architectural drawing and a cartoon of a room, and they cost nothing to request.
Compare the plan against the photo item by item. Furniture placement is the part that is genuinely derived from your image; wall thickness and the door swing are conventions the model supplies, so they are the parts to treat as decoration.
Every one of them is about communicating a space to someone who is not standing in it.
Rearranging a room in your head is famously unreliable, and rearranging it for real costs a Saturday and a bad back. A plan lets you try six arrangements on paper first, and it settles arguments about whether the sofa fits on the other wall.
Floor plans measurably help a property listing, because they answer the question photographs cannot: how the rooms connect. A drawn plan from a photo is not a surveyed one, so use it as a marketing sketch and label it that way.
A joiner, an electrician or a decorator quoting remotely needs the arrangement more than the atmosphere. An overhead sketch alongside the photos removes an entire round of questions about what is where.
Where the lights stand, where the tables go, where people walk. The same instinct as a tabletop battle map — an overhead view exists so several people can agree on positions at once.
The questions worth asking before relying on a drawing made from a photograph.
No. It is proportionally plausible — a sofa looks like a sofa next to a door — but nothing has been measured, and there is no way for a single photograph to establish a true dimension without a reference. Use it to communicate an arrangement, not to order flooring.
No, and this is the one hard line on the page. Regulatory drawings have to be produced from measured surveys by someone who carries the responsibility for them. A generated blueprint is a sketch, and submitting one would waste your time and the assessor's.
One good corner shot is the working case here. The model reasons from what it can see, so a photo that captures two walls and the floor between them gives a far better plan than three photos of individual features. If half the room is out of frame, that half is invented.
Dimension lines appear as a drafting convention, but there are deliberately no numbers or lettering on them — generated text is unreliable and a wrong measurement on a drawing is worse than no measurement. Add your own once you have taped the room.
Gardens, terraces and yards convert reasonably well when there is a clear boundary — a fence line, a wall, a path. Open landscape does not, because a plan needs edges and there are none. The same is true of very large interiors photographed from one end.
It travels over HTTPS, lands in your own history, and goes nowhere else. It is never used to advertise, and deleting it removes it. Every output is AI-generated.
