To get the Disney boyfriend filter, open the TikTok camera, tap Effects and search "my disney boyfriend" or "my cartoon boyfriend". It is a TikTok effect, and it is older than the current wave: the most-viewed Disney boyfriend filter video we found (by @phuc.trang.duong2, posted 9 February 2026) has 20.6 million plays. The twist the name hides is that it is not all Disney. In the posts we checked it also handed out DreamWorks' Megamind.
Where it lives: TikTok's effects tray. Search "my disney boyfriend", "my cartoon boyfriend" or "cartoon boyfriend match".
Instagram: record it on TikTok, save the video and post it as a Reel.
Snapchat: a separate, similar lens called Cartoon Boyfriend, by Karmaismydog.
What it does: drops a still of an animated leading man above your head. You cannot pick the character, and nothing shows it matches faces.
No TikTok? Kavel's Disney boyfriend filter page makes the picture from a selfie, with a boyfriend drawn just for you.
How to get the Disney boyfriend filter on TikTok
- Open TikTok and tap the + button to get to the camera.
- Tap Effects (bottom left of the camera screen) and use the search box inside the effects tray.
- Search "my disney boyfriend". If nothing useful comes up, search "my cartoon boyfriend" or "cartoon boyfriend match". They are different effects that do the same thing.
- Switch to the front camera and record. The card drops onto your head while you film. Your reaction is the video, so start recording before the card lands.

Can't find the Disney boyfriend filter? Three fixes cover most cases:
- Search the other name. Most posts (45 of 60) used "My Cartoon Boyfriend", not the Disney spelling.
- Take it from a video. On any Disney boyfriend filter post, tap the effect name above the caption, then "Try this effect".
- Update the app. If the effect still does not show up, update TikTok and search again.
The Disney boyfriend filter on Instagram, Snapchat and CapCut
Instagram: post it as a Reel
Record the video with the TikTok effect, save it to your phone, and upload it to Instagram as a Reel.
Snapchat: a similar lens, not the same one
It is called Cartoon Boyfriend, made by the creator Karmaismydog, and it asks "Which Cartoon Boyfriend" before the reveal. Open the lens link on your phone, or search "Cartoon Boyfriend" in Snapchat's lens explorer.

CapCut: the editor, not the filter
33 of the 60 TikTok posts mention CapCut in the caption. Many of the newest ones share the same line ("OMG, that's unbelievably accurate! it's purely destiny!") and the same CapCut hashtags. They are still recorded with the TikTok effect. CapCut adds the edit and the template on top, and its own "romantic Disney video" templates are a separate thing again.
An iPhone app
"My Character: Cartoon Filter" by CEM Software Company Limited is free on the App Store (checked 4 October 2026), was released in August 2024, and lists a "Cartoon Lover Prediction" filter that shows "your ideal match in the cartoon universe". That is the closest thing to a Disney boyfriend filter app, and it is not made by TikTok or Disney.
Which characters the Disney boyfriend filter gives you
The card is a still from an existing animated film. These are the ones we could identify in the posts we checked, with the post each was seen in:
| Character | Film | Studio | Seen in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aladdin | Aladdin (1992) | Disney | 3 of the 12 most-viewed posts; top one @s.hillary, 22 Mar 2026, 2.6M plays |
| Jim Hawkins | Treasure Planet (2002) | Disney | @starry.the.worm, 24 Aug 2026, 6.3M plays |
| Peter Pan | Peter Pan (1953) | Disney | @cut_animals001, 17 Oct 2025, 364K plays |
| Prince Eric | The Little Mermaid (1989) | Disney | @zanechak84, 1 Oct 2026 |
| David | Lilo & Stitch (2002) | Disney | @jvqiwlptz8732, 27 Sep 2026 |
| Dimitri | Anastasia (1997) | 20th Century Fox | @tifvonbatsy, 1 Oct 2026 |
| Megamind | Megamind (2010) | DreamWorks | @stupidcat8128, 7 Apr 2026, 14.7M plays |
Characters identified from post covers on 4 October 2026. Plays as TikTok reported them that day.
So the "Disney" in the name is a nickname. The pool mixes Disney leading men with Anastasia's Dimitri and DreamWorks' Megamind, and the Megamind draw is one of the two most-viewed Disney boyfriend filter posts we found. Getting the blue-headed villain instead of a prince is a big part of why people keep filming it.
Is the Disney boyfriend filter accurate?
You cannot choose the character, and the posts show both near-misses and hits. The 6.3 million-play post says "i think they're confused - how is this accurate?". The 2.6 million-play one says "I almost got a character that looked like him but the filter messed up". A December 2024 post says "Like minus the beard that's literally him".
The effects do not publish how they pick, and nothing on TikTok says they read your partner's face. Treat it as a game, not a face match: the joke lands when the card is perfect or completely wrong.
No TikTok? Make your own Disney boyfriend picture
One reply under a YouTube tutorial reads: "I don't have TikTok, so I made my own by pausing the video and typing up the results." Which option fits depends on what you want to end up with:
| You want | Use | What you get | Cost (4 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| The reaction video everyone posts | TikTok effect "my disney boyfriend" / "My Cartoon Boyfriend" | A random film still above your head, on video | Free in the TikTok app |
| The same game on Snapchat | Snapchat lens "Cartoon Boyfriend" by Karmaismydog | A cartoon boyfriend reveal, on Snapchat | Free in Snapchat |
| An app on iPhone | "My Character: Cartoon Filter" (CEM Software) | The app's "Cartoon Lover Prediction" | Free to download |
| A picture you keep, no app | Kavel Disney boyfriend filter | Your selfie with an original cartoon boyfriend card, or the two of you in a 2D animated scene | Free credits on a new account, then credits |
The TikTok effect only gives you a video of a film still, not a picture you can keep, and you cannot pick who you get. Kavel's Disney boyfriend filter works from one selfie, in the browser:
- The card look: the prompt asks to keep your selfie as it is and add a square hand-drawn card with your cartoon boyfriend above your head.
- The film look: you are redrawn as a 2D animated heroine next to him, in one of five scenes: a beach at sunset, a ballroom, an apple orchard, a bookshop in the rain or a snowy station. With the card, that is six templates.
To make one: open the Disney boyfriend filter page, upload a selfie, tap one of the six templates under "Pick a template", change his hair or clothes in the prompt if you like, and generate.

The difference from the TikTok effect is that the boyfriend is an original character drawn for your photo, not a frame from a film, so you can change him: his hair, his clothes, where you meet. A new account starts with free credits, and weekly check-ins add more, so you can try it on your own selfie.

Other cartoon looks from one selfie: the Pixar filter for photos turns you into a 3D animated character, the Ghibli AI generator paints you into a soft hand-painted scene, and the AI caricature generator gives you the big-head cartoon. For another "who do I look like" game, try what animal do I look like. If you want a real person beside you instead of a cartoon, add a person to a photo. To make the picture move, animate the illustration. And if the TikTok love-story trends are your thing, the zombie AI video is the other one going round this month.
FAQ
What is the Disney boyfriend filter called on TikTok?
Search "my disney boyfriend" or "my cartoon boyfriend" in the effects tray. In 60 posts we checked, "My Cartoon Boyfriend" was the most used (45 posts), followed by "my disney boyfriend 💕" (38).
Why can't I find the effect?
Search the other effect name, open the effect from someone else's video ("Try this effect"), or update TikTok. The Disney spelling alone misses the most-used version.
Is it on Instagram?
To share it on Instagram, record it with the TikTok effect and upload the video as a Reel. Snapchat has a similar lens called Cartoon Boyfriend.
Is the Disney boyfriend filter free?
Yes. The TikTok effects and the Snapchat lens are free to use. On Kavel, a new account starts with free credits to make the picture from a selfie, and credit packs and plans cover more runs after that.
Does it only show Disney characters?
No. In the posts we checked it also showed Dimitri from Fox's Anastasia and DreamWorks' Megamind.
