Hair hides the back and sides of a head, so the model has to invent what was under there — a rounder or flatter skull than yours gives you a stranger. The hairline is the other tell: it does not disappear at grade 1, it becomes more visible, and a preview that quietly hands back the hairline you had at twenty is flattering and useless.

A straight-on frame in even daylight with your forehead visible gives the model the hairline, the temples and the crown. A cap, hard overhead sun or a low angle gives it almost nothing. Keep the beard in too — grade 0 shows scalp and grade 4 barely reads as buzzed, and the beard rebalances both.
