AI Laughing Face Effect

One photograph in, six seconds of laughter out. The thing that separates a convincing laugh from a creepy one is that a real laugh is not a face — it is a body: the head tips back, the eyes screw shut, the shoulders shake, and it lands on a grin rather than snapping back to neutral. That is what this page's prompt is written to produce.

Our own run

One still portrait, six seconds of laughing

Generated on this page's engine while building it, from a plain front-facing studio portrait. Watch the arc rather than the peak: the head goes back first, the laugh crests with the eyes shut, then it settles into a grin. Every output is AI-generated, so yours will differ in timing and intensity — read this as what the effect can hold.

Run one

Studio portrait → belly laugh

The source photo was a neutral, slightly smiling portrait against a plain wall. The clip keeps the hair, the navy jumper and the background exactly as shot, and moves only the person: head tipping back at the peak of the laugh, eyes creasing shut, then easing forward into an open grin.

The input

The source photo it started from

Nothing about the input was special: a plain front-facing studio portrait, neutral expression, even light, navy jumper, blank wall. That is the point of showing it — the effect does not need a photo shot for it, and everything the clip keeps is visible here first.

AI video effect

What is the AI laughing face effect?

It is an image-to-video effect: you give it one still portrait and it generates a short clip of that person laughing, inventing the frames in between rather than warping the original picture.

Video tool

Older versions of this trick were face-mesh puppetry — the still image got stretched around a rig, which is why the results wobbled and the teeth looked painted on. A video model generates each frame instead, so the mouth opens onto real teeth, the eyes actually crease, and the hair moves when the head does. The trade is that it is generation, not editing: every run is slightly different.

Say what the body does

Head tipping back, shoulders shaking, eyes crinkling shut. Ask only for laughter and you tend to get a widened smile — the face alone is not what reads as a laugh.

Lock the camera

Unless you ask for a still camera the model will often add a drift or a push-in, which pulls attention off the face and makes a six-second clip feel like a trailer shot.

Front-facing photos animate best

The model has to invent the inside of the mouth and the shape of screwed-shut eyes. A clear, evenly lit, forward-facing face gives it the most to work from.

The same technique with a different expression is on the shocked face effect and the scared face effect; for a still rather than a clip, the smile generator edits the expression in place.

Three decisions

How to get a laugh that reads as real

Three things to state outright. Leave them out and the model gives you a widened smile with a drifting camera.

  1. 01

Describe the body, not just the face

Head tipping back, shoulders shaking, eyes crinkling shut, mouth wide open. Those four clauses are the difference between laughter and a grin held for six seconds.

  2. 02

    Ask for a locked-off camera

Say locked-off camera, same background. Left open, the model adds a slow push-in that competes with the expression for attention and makes the clip harder to loop.

  3. 03

    Give it an ending

Then easing into a grin. Without a written landing the clip either freezes at the peak or resets to neutral, and both endings look like a glitch rather than a laugh.

Who uses it

Where a laughing clip goes

Three places this six seconds actually gets used.

Reaction clips in group chats

A photo of the person you are talking to, laughing, is a faster reply than any sticker — and it is the most common reason people run this at all.

Short-form edits

Six seconds of a still photo coming to life is a cut that fits between talking-head shots, which is why the effect spread on short video in the first place.

Bringing old photos into motion

A single archive portrait laughing is unsettling and moving in equal measure — the same territory as restoring an old photo before you animate it.

Questions about the effect

What it needs, what it costs, and where it breaks.

No — this runs silent. The engine behind this page generates picture only, so if you need a laugh track you add it in your editor. That is also why the body language matters: the clip has to read as laughter with the sound off.

Almost always because the prompt described a face rather than a body. Add head tipping back, shoulders shaking, eyes crinkling shut. A laugh is a movement of the whole upper body and the model animates what you name.

Front-facing, evenly lit, with the face large in the frame and nothing covering the mouth. The model invents teeth, tongue and creased eyelids, so anything it cannot see clearly it has to guess.

It works, but expect the second person to be less controlled — the model splits its attention. If both faces matter, say so explicitly, and accept more retries than a single-subject clip needs.

Six seconds is the default here and it suits a single expression arc. Longer clips give the model room to invent a second beat you did not ask for, which is usually where the resemblance starts to slip.

This page uses the free engine, so free credits cover your first attempts. After that a clip costs credits by length and resolution, the estimate appears in the generator before you start, and a failed run is refunded automatically (unless it broke the content policy).

Model credit guide

What each model costs in credits

You're only charged for successful generations. The exact estimate in the generator varies by model, length, resolution, audio, and number of images.

TypeModelCredit cost
VideoSeedance 2.5The long-take tier, priced per second: 5s 480p ≈ 211 credits, 5s 720p ≈ 473. A full 30s take runs ≈ 1,260 at 480p and ≈ 2,835 at 720p. Supplying a reference clip lowers the per-second rate.
VideoSeedance 2.05s 720p image-to-video ≈ 188 credits; text-to-video ≈ 308 credits. Scales with resolution and length.
VideoSeedance 2 FastFaster and lower cost. 5s 720p text-to-video ≈ 248 credits.
VideoSeedance 2 MiniThe cheapest Seedance tier. 5s 720p ≈ 154 credits, 5s 480p ≈ 72 credits.
VideoSeedance 1.5 ProAudio doubles the rate. 5s 720p ≈ 27 credits silent, ≈ 53 with audio; 1080p ≈ 57 and ≈ 113.
VideoVeo 3.1Billed per video, not per second (Lite tier). About 45 credits at 720p and 53 at 1080p.
VideoKling 3.0Audio raises the rate. 5s 720p ≈ 105 credits silent, ≈ 150 with audio; 1080p ≈ 135 and ≈ 203.
VideoMiniMax H3Fixed 2K, no resolution ladder. Priced per second — a 5s clip ≈ 158 credits.
ImageNano Banana 2Generate or edit from text and images. About 8 credits per 1K image, 12 at 2K, 18 at 4K.
ImageNano Banana ProConsistent run times across generations. About 12 credits per 1K or 2K image, 21 at 4K.
ImageNano Banana 2 LiteFaster, simpler variant. A flat 8 credits per image at every resolution. Start here to test.
ImageGPT Image 2The lowest-cost image model here. About 3 credits per 1K image, 6 at 2K, 12 at 4K.
