The best AI family photo prompt is two parts. The first part is the photoshoot: place, outfits, light. The second part is the same in every prompt below, and it does the real work:

To make your own season, change only the first half and keep the keep sentence. Two more AI family photos we ran for this post, a Thanksgiving table and a winter cabin, did exactly that:
Thanksgiving: "gathered around a long dinner tableā¦ passing dishes to each other and laughing" plus the keep sentence. An earlier draft said "raising their glasses", and the AI put glasses of amber drink in the children's hands, so we changed the verb.
Winter cabin: matching cream cable-knit sweaters by a fireplace, snow outside. Grandma's grey curls, the glasses and the toddler's bunches all carried over.
Same AI family photo prompt, two models
We ran the fall pumpkin patch prompt on the same backyard selfie in two models on 4 October 2026: GPT Image 2.5, and Nano Banana 2 Lite, the model free accounts on Kavel use for photo edits.

Both kept the AI family photo recognisable. What changed was how far each model moved the camera. If you want a full-length photoshoot, say so in the prompt ("full-length, standing on the hay bales"); if you want the faces large, say "close family portrait, head and shoulders".
Why AI family photos come out "unrecognizable"
The most common complaint about AI family photos is not quality, it is identity. A Reddit post from August 2026 titled "My mom AI slopified or family photo" said the family came back "practically unrecognizable, just generic AI characters". Under a separate September story about an AI family photo, one of the most upvoted replies pointed out that the husband had six fingers. Three things to check before you blame the model:
- The photo hides a face. Sunglasses, a hand, a head turned away or cut off at the edge of the frame: a face the model cannot see clearly is a face it has to guess. Use a photo where every face points at the camera.
- The prompt has no head count. "A family photo at the beach" invites the model to compose a family. "The same number of people, with nobody added or removed" is the line that guards against the extra cousin; if one still appears, run it again before rewriting.
- The prompt has no ages. Without "the same ages", children can come back older and grandparents younger. The keep sentence covers it.
If someone is missing from the photo you have, add the person to the photo first and then run the photoshoot, so everyone ends up in the same light. For someone who has passed away, adding a loved one to a photo does the first step more gently.

To ask an AI to generate a family picture, the order in most apps is: attach the family photo first, then paste the full prompt including the keep sentence, then generate. If a face comes back wrong, run it again before rewriting; image models give a different take each time.
